=> To cure this disease, first thorough diagnostic work up of the underlying disorder is essential. Many reports are there for successful pharmacological treatment. As well monotherapeutic as combination strategies are reported Antidepressants, antipsychotic and mood stabilisers are used.
=> Electroconvulsive therapy has many positive effect reports mostly in combination with pharmacotherapy. An overall prognosis seems to be mostly determined by the treatment by the treatment options and prognosis for the underlying disorder.
Weirdest Diseases – Necrotizing Fasciitis (Flesh Eating Bacteria):
Necrotizing Fasciitis is a severe type of Bacteria infection. It is a progressive and rapidly spreading infection comes under Weirdest Diseases. It primarily affects the subcutaneous connective tissue planes, where it may quickly spread to involve adjacent soft tissue, leading to widespread necrosis. It can destroy the skin, muscles, and underlying soft tissue. This infection makes the soft tissue to die. It is a very rare infection, but dangerous one. It is usually treated immediately with high dosage medicine.
This soft tissue infection causes, when the bacteria enter into body through cuts, wounds or any scrapes. After entering into a body it grows and release toxic substances to kill soft tissues and blood flow into this area also be affected. Because of the death of tissue, the bacteria can easily enter into the blood and spread rapidly throughout the body. One of the Strange Weirdest Disease
Weirdest Diseases – Symptoms of Necrotizing Fasciitis (Flesh Eating Bacteria):
The symptoms start suddenly after an injury. The affected person need medical care right away if they have pain that gets better over 24 to 36 hours and then suddenly gets worse. The pain may be much worse than you would expect from the size of the wound or injury. They may also have the following symptoms:
-> Fever and Chills
-> Nausea and Vomiting
-> Skin turned into red colour, got swollen and hot to the touch
The infection may spread rapidly. It quickly can become life-threatening. They may go into Shock and got gangrene i.e, damage to skin, fat, and the tissue covering the muscles.
Weirdest Diseases - Treatments for Necrotizing Fasciitis (Flesh Eating Bacteria):
=> Treatment of necrotizing fasciitis is very critical. If sooner treatment begins, the more soon will recover from the infection and avoid serious complications, such as limb amputation or death. The treatment will be given by admitting the person in the intensive care unit (ICU) at the hospital.
=> Surgery that removes infected tissue and fluids to stop the spread of infection. Surgery is almost always needed. Most people need several surgeries to control the infection. Removing limbs (amputation) or organs may be done to save the person’s life, depending on how severe the infection is and where it has spread.
=> Procedures to treat complications such as shock, breathing problems, and organ failure
=> Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy help to increase a person’s blood oxygen level, which can prevent tissue death, promote healing, and help fight infection. This treatment involves a person being in an enclosed chamber while 100% oxygen is pumped in at high pressure. Large medical centres can often provide hyperbaric oxygen therapy, but it may not be available in smaller hospitals.
=> Treatment involves antibiotics and surgical debridement of the wound areas as well as supportive measures such as insertion of a breathing tube, intravenous administration of fluids, and drugs to support the cardiovascular system.
Weirdest Diseases – Elephantiasis:
Elephantiasis is also called lymphatic filariasis. Elephantiasis is one of the most commonly found Weirdest Disease in African nations. People affected by this Weirdest Disease have large legs and arms swollen to a great size. It also affects male genitals and breast. The skin in the affected area develops a thickened and pepply appearance and may become ulcerated and darkened. This disease is spreaded by Mosquitoes. Parasitic worms such as Wuchereria bancrofti, Brugia malayi and B.timori are actually causing the illness, which are all transmitted by Mosquitoes.
Weirdest Diseases - Symptoms of Elephantiasis:
Symptoms of elephantiasis do not appear until years after infection. As the parasites accumulate in the blood vessels, they can restrict circulation and cause fluid to build up in surrounding tissues.
It is characterized by the gross enlargement of limb or areas of the trunk or head. The skin usually develops a thickened, pebbly appearance and may become ulcerated and darkened. Fever, chills and a general feeling of ill health may be present.
Elephantiasis may also affect the male and female genital organs. In a male, there may be enlargement of the scrotum, and the penis may be retracted under skin which has become thickened, non elastic, hot and painful. The spermatic cords may become thickened.
The external parts of the female genital organs may also be affected by elephantiasis. A long, tumorous mass covered by thickened and ulcerated skin may develop between the thighs. There may also be an enlargement of the lymph nodes of the legs.
Symptoms of acute infection of elephantiasis are:
-> Pain in and above testicles
-> Enlarged groin lymph nodes
Symptoms of chronic infection of elephantiasis are:
-> Massively swollen legs, genitalia and breasts
-> White urinary discharge
-> Swollen Liver and Spleen
Weirdest Diseases - Treatments for Elephantiasis:
=> The microfilaria, bacteria and the worms that cause elephantiasis can be killed completely by taking DEC tablets for a period of time. But the body swelling caused by this disease cannot be cured completely and regaining original shape of a body is not possible.
=> Elephantiasis treatment basically, relies on the medications, which can kill the parasite and its larvae. Albendazole and diethylcarbamazine drugs are most commonly used drugs and these medications have proved to be effective for killing the microfilariae, and also the adult worms. However, in the sub-Saharan Africa, Albendazole is used along with ivermectin. Ivermectin is another medication that can kill the microfilariae, though its effect on the adult worms is not very clear. The most common side effects associated with this medication are, fever, myalgia and headache.
=> For killing the adult worms, diethylcarbamazine is regarded as a better option than ivermectin. Diethylcarbamazine has been found to considerably reduce the size of the enlarged lymph nodes. However, one can experience allergic reactions while taking this drug, for which steroid and antihistamine medications can be required. This side effect is generally, attributed to the destruction of the parasite, as the dying parasitic worms have been found to release certain chemicals, which can produce the allergic reaction. Along with medications, regular cleaning of the affected area can also help to a great extent in controlling the symptoms of elephantiasis. This is probably due to the fact that many times, secondary skin infections can play a very important role in aggravating the symptoms of elephantiasis. So, daily cleaning can help to prevent such secondary infections. Antibiotics such as doxycycline have also shown some promising results for treating elephantiasis.
=> The treatment for non-filarial elephantiasis include, wearing shoes that can help to prevent further exposure to the irritants, and wearing elastic bandage. Elastic stocking can also help to manage the swelling and inflammation caused by elephantiasis. Physicians often suggest cleaning the affected area with soap and water, as well as soaking the area in a mixture of water and antiseptic, for the management of non-filarial elephantiasis. Lastly, surgery can also be performed to reduce elephantiasis, especially elephantiasis of the scrotum. But, for elephantiasis of the trunk or limb, surgery is not very effective.
=> Though tissue damage is permanent, the swelling can be managed or reduced with appropriate treatment. The success of elephantiasis treatment depends on its early diagnosis and prompt treatment. The non parasitic form of the diseases can be prevented with the help of certain measures like, wearing shoes, which can reduce the exposure to the irritants found in some soil. Therefore, appropriate elephantiasis treatment also depends on accurate diagnosis of the condition.
Weirdest Diseases – Pica Disorder:
The persons who are all affecting by Pica disorder eat materials other than food such as clay, chalk, paper, Baking Soda, Laundry Starch, feces, hair, buttons, toothpaste, soap etc., Pica is more commonly seen Weirdest Diseases in women and children. Particularly it is seen in pregnant Women, small children, and those with development disabilities such as autism. For children with autism, suffering from pica disorder has seemed to be even more dangerous. Children eating painted plaster containing lead may suffer brain damage from lead poisoning. Even though, there are assumptions that it is linked with mineral deficiency, especially iron, not yet come to a clear conclusion about how and why this type of Weirdest Diseases are occurs.
Weirdest Diseases - Signs and Symptoms of Pica Disorder:
-> Probably the most obvious signs and symptoms of Pica would be the behaviour itself. If you notice that someone is eating objects with no nutritional value, and they are old enough to not be doing so or if young children insist on doing it repeatedly then we can tell those persons are affecting by this disorder and medical assessment is definitely recommended.
-> Pica symptoms depends on what has been eaten, and how much. Lead poisoning in Pica is common for children or other people who consume plaster or paint. It may also result in brain damage.
-> Frequent trips to the emergency clinic may also be another indication that Pica eating disorder has become a problem. There are so many items that can cause blockages, ruptures, internal bleeding, poisoning and more.
Weirdest Diseases - Pica Disorder Treatments:
-> Treatment for Pica varies depending on what has caused the disorder. For those found to have a nutrient deficiency, treatment for the deficiency should make the Pica behaviour disappears. In cases where the nutrient deficiency is caused by a parasite, that parasite must be addressed first.
-> When Pica is caused by mental illness or developmental challenges, treatment becomes more complex.
Treatment for Pica disorder is depended on the root cause of Pica for example if it is diagnosed that the issue is due to mineral deficiency then mineral supplements are given to the victim. It is essential to diagnose any individual who is seen ingesting such non eatables, as there are fair chances that he may be suffering from Pica disorder.
=> The four basic strategies for behaviour modification are
=> Positive reinforcement for good behaviour i.e., the addition of something enjoyed, such as a token economy
=> Negative reinforcement for good behaviour i.e., the removal of something aversive, such as removal of something phobic.
=> Positive punishment for poor behaviour i.e., the addition of something aversive, such as a water mist spray.
=> Negative punishment for poor behaviour i.e., the removal of something enjoyed, such as planned ignoring.
Note that some of these strategies are only used in severe cases. The most common strategies are Positive Reinforcement for good behaviour and Positive Punishment for poor behaviour. The specific steps are contingent on the Pica sufferer.
Weirdest Diseases – Progeria:
Progeria is a rare disease. It occurs in an estimated 1 per 8 million live births. The person affecting by this genetic disease have aging look in child age itself. Because the aging process of the body accelerates much faster than what it does in normal humans. This process of aging gallops to about seven times the normal rate. Their life mainly comes to an end within twenty years. The child affected by this disorder get all the symptoms like those of elderly person having .e., Wrinkled skin, Loss of eyesight, hair fall, kidney failure etc., a bad Weirdest Disease..
Weirdest Diseases - Symptoms of Progeria:
-> Disproportionate Head comparing to Face
-> Thin lips and visible veins
-> Small jaw in comparison to head size and High pitched voice
-> Abnormal Tooth formation
-> Braked Nose and Narrowed face
-> Hair loss including eyebrow and eyelashes
-> Variation and irregular heart beat
-> Slow growth with below average weight and height
-> Stiff joints and Hip dislocation
-> Hard and wrinkled skin
-> Cardiovascular problems
-> No sexual maturation
Weirdest Diseases - Treatments for Progeria:
=> There is no specific treatment for cure this disease. Artery bypass surgery or dilation of cardiac arteries may help the affected children to slow the progression of cardiovascular disease. Regular monitoring for cardiovascular disease may help with managing your child’s condition
=> Some therapies also help to ease or delay some of the signs or symptoms.
=> Daily dose of Low dose Aspirin May help to prevent heart attack and stroke
=> Statins to lower cholesterol or anticoagulants to help prevent blood clots. The use of growth hormone may help increase height and weight. But these are depending upon the child’s condition.
=> Physical and occupational therapy may help with joint stiffness and hip problems and help to the child to be active.
=> Investigational Therapies: Since some studies suggest that some symptoms of Hutchinson Gilford Progeria may be due to the production of a biologically inactive form of growth hormone and treatment of affected children with recombinant human growth hormone has been attempted. More study is needed to determine the long term safety and effectiveness of this drug for treatment of this disease.
=> Extraction of primary teeth: Child’s permanent teeth may start coming in before his or her baby teeth fall out. Extraction may help prevent problems associated with the delayed loss of baby teeth, including overcrowding and developing a second row of teeth when permanent teeth come in.
=> A cancer drug could help children with the premature ageing disorder progeria, a study has suggested.
